January 6, 2011: We're Back!

Heaveno!

Well, I don't really know what the deal was last night with blogger.  This field I am typing in wouldn't open up last night.  The only two places I could type were in the title and labels fields.  Weird.  Truth be told, I needed a little respite; I launched a new web page, merchant account, and online registration portal today for the conference I am chair of for my regional professional association today.  I've been logging 48 hour days as they say in Hollywood when it is crunch time.  In fact, I have been glued to this little laptop for a good 40 of the past 48 hours straight dealing with a million forest fires.  It's the first time our region has gone with online registration and a new conference page (my bright ideas... I should learn to just keep my trap shut).  Really, though, giving birth to an online process will make our lives so much easier next year, and the year after that, etc.  This unfortunately is version 1.0, which is usually fraught with "learning experiences" and generally undervalued by the consumers of it.  Oh well, someone's gotta drag us into the 21st century, might as well be me!

Meanwhile, I am working again from Ali's room; it's half past midnight, and Ali is sleeping in Bella's bed after projectile vomiting all over hers a little while earlier.  Momma is feeling a little under the weather as well, so I am pulling on-call duty while fixing all the bugs on the new site. I'm hunched over at her cute little play table, freezing next to the open window (yeah, go ahead and laugh...I'm in a t-shirt!) that is attempting to breeze out the fried chicken finger smell...

... holy cow.

...Ali just projectile vomited again!  Wow, what a sight!  I'm back after another round of cleaning up / changing sheets / putting sheets in the washer and running them ALL a second time!  Wow.  I was just sitting here, and this ungodly sound erupted from the depths of Ali's belly.  I looked over at her and WHOOSH!  Thar she blows!  Wow.  Great moments in parenting.  The best part?  We were at Ruby's Diner earlier tonight imploring Ali to finish her chicken!  LOL.  Nice.  Parent of the year!

Okay, gotta sneak in some shut-eye while Ali is back asleep (for now) , but before I do, I need your help...

Our good friend Jay Mooreland actually needs your help.  Jay and his wife Lonni founded PUCK to help fund the cure for EB after their little girl Sarah died in the same study Bella died in.  Jay is going back to school, and he has an online survey he needs at least 200 people to fill out for his class.  The survey is on financial behavior, and I'm not gonna lie (sorry, Jay), the subject matter is a little dry for me, but Jay is a financial planner and this is really important for his class and his career.

SO... Jay has offered to donate a dollar to PUCK for the first 250 people that fill out his survey by January 13!  This is an EASY way to give a little of your time (I think about 7 minutes and 24 seconds should do it) to raise a little money for PUCK!  If just 25% of our blog readers (there are usually around 1,000 a day here) help Jay out, we'll all chip in a little time and $250 to PUCK!  Remember, enough fragile little snowflakes... makes an AVALANCHE!

Would you please help Jay out with this?  Just CLICK HERE and help raise another little chunk toward a cure for EB!

Thank you for continuing to be with us, our lives are richer because of your presence in it.

P.S.  If you used to comment, and haven't in a while, would you drop us a line and say hi?  It would be great to hear from you again!  Don't worry if it's been a while; good friends don't mind a little time!

God night.

  6. Good morning~
I was reading the paper this morning and a letter in there was about random acts of kindness. I thought of you right away. It is amazing how a small act of kindness can change someones day. I hope your family is recovered from the bug they caught. You wouldn't have the window open here, it is below zero again!!

Hugs coming your way from ND.

  7. Hope Ali feels better soon!

I've been having a rough week up here in Chicago. My primary baby that I take care of in the NICU (the one I've talked about since the beginning of October) has had a rough week. He had to get transferred to a different hospital / NICU to get some specialized procedures done on his eyes.

Long story short, even though he's only going to be there for a week and a half, and they're only supposed to mess with his eyes, the other unit has messed with EVERYTHING about him. They've completely ignored the plan of care that we've been working on for the past 3 months. His mom has been in tears everyday. The nurses and doctors on this new unit have been rude to her, and never take the time to answer her questions. Our attending doc (who happens to be the head attending of our level III NICU) has even called over to the new unit to try and see what was going on. He's been completely ignored. Sigh.

Thankfully he should be back with us where he belongs by the end of next week. I just feel especially bad for his mom.

In other more happy news on my end - wedding planning is going well!

  9. I hope Ali and Angelique feel better soon. Ari and I both had a similar tummy bug a few weeks ago, no fun at all!!

Not much new here, other than I am working on the cliche resolution of getting healthy this year! ;) I'm doing well with eating a lot healthier and I already feel a difference even though it's only been a week. Fitting in the exercise is harder but I'm managing to get at least a little in everyday so far. I've lost 4.5lbs so far - I'm sure it's mostly water weight but it's nice to see that on the scale anyway!

    Best,
    Cara in Tucson

  14. Taking that survey confirmed what I already knew...I'm going to need a financial planner when I finish grad school!

In this new year I'm doing the opposite of most of America...trying to gain back the 8 pounds I lost due to school/life stress/bronchitis last semester. Also need to get moving again. I dread working out because I know how sore I am going to be.

Hope your house is healthy soon. Great pic today, you goofs.

    Sending my love! Lisa

  15. Tim,

I hope you don't catch Ali's bug! I'll take any cold the kids sent my way, but I hate stomach viruses.

We already knew that you were "Dad of the year," but I used to nanny for a family where Dad was mostly in charge. Their toddler son was sick and had been throwing up, but Dad said he had bathed him and changed his clothes. Somehow, his room still smelled pretty bad, and I couldn't figure out what needed to be cleaned. Guess what? Dad took the puke-covered fitted sheet and turned it inside out, then put it back on the bed!!! I was horrified! I thought about putting that sheet on Dad's bed, but decided to wash it instead. :) That's my best puke story! Hope it helps you through what looks like may become a long day!

I'm glad you enjoyed your trip to CO. It was fun seeing all of your adventures from just a few hundred miles away. Denver finally got a little snow and it looks so nice.

I loved all of your providence stories. I sat at the computer with a smile on my face, reading about one amazing day. It does make me realize that I need to keep my eyes, mind and heart open to the stories going on around me.

I hope your girls start feeling better soon!

  17. Sorry I haven't checked in for a while. We also have had the sickness invade our house. My eight year old has been home from school for 3 days with fever, sore throat and dizziness. Then my 2 1/2 year old was up puking all night. I too have runing on nothing, feeling like my stomach is a little yucky also.

But, I do check in every day.

  18. Yikes! Hope sweet Ali feels better soon, and that the virus exits the building quickly. I can handle a lot of things, but nothing sends me over the edge like vomiting does!

Love the cute "hats"- we used to have that same animal stacker-ring thing!

    Praying for a puke-free weekend!!

    Love from TX,

  21. Hi Tim!

Had a look at the survey, but, my finances consist of...well, my bank account. So couldn't really answer. I'll just go straight to PUCK instead =)

Hope you and your family get well soon!

  22. I have never posted before.. the first day I saw your site (recommended by a friend) was the day that your beautiful Bella left this world (though I didn't know it at the time). So many emotions went through me while I was reading that I didn't come back for almost a month. When I did and read of her passing I broke down sobbing. Let me tell you that I am currently Active Duty for the Army and a SFC sobbing at her workstation is not the norm. My heart and soul go out to you. I've wanted to say soo many things, but even now I'm having a hard time of it. Tim, your faithfulness is overwhelming.

I find myself drawn to your words.

Although I was raised Methodist, I have not hung on to a belief system in many years. I don't know what holds me up from believing, no tragic occurrence that I know of. Reading your blog has sparked an urge in me to ask myself why I'm so reluctant.

    You really have a calling.

Here's to the New Year, discovering new heights with open hearts and minds.
    Thank you,
    Robyn - Indiana

  23. Fairly new to your blog and have never posted. Your insight, truth and love for God and your family are truly inspiring. We are all put here on Earth for a reason. Some people are blessed to absolutely know their "reason" and you are one of them. Keep reminding the rest of us that we all have a purpose in life. I truly believe that those who go before us are with us in spirit. May Bella be with you each and every day.

  24. Nin Jiom Pei Pa Koa (ninjiom-hk.cwahi.net) may be another choice. i know alot of people use it, its also non alcoholic, though it's effectiveness is not as good as alcohol based cough medicine, but it's still good to use on not so serious sore throat.
